Georgia-Cumberland Academy Technology Acceptable Use Policy - Summary

Modified on Fri, 8 Aug at 4:42 PM

GCA provides students with technology access to support educational goals, not as public access. The school filters and monitors Internet use and may limit content. Parents can request additional restrictions (whitelist-only access). Ultimately, parents are responsible for guiding their child’s media use and may choose to limit Internet access through the school network.

Students agree to follow these guidelines:

Be Safe

  • Never share personal information with anyone (like full name, address, phone number, or login credentials).
  • Only communicate online with people you know.
  • Report anything inappropriate, suspicious, or uncomfortable to a teacher or staff member immediately.
  • Do not participate in illegal activities online—this includes things like hacking, bypassing filters, or sharing pirated content.

Be Respectful

  • Use kind and respectful language at all times—online and in person.
  • Do not post or share anything that could be considered bullying, harmful, or offensive.
  • Respect others’ privacy. Do not share or forward messages, images, or files without permission.

Use Technology for Learning

  • Use computers and devices for school-related tasks and assignments only.
  • Do not play games, stream videos, or browse unrelated websites unless given permission by a teacher.
  • Do not attempt to bypass content filters or school security settings.

Follow the Rules

  • Do not change system settings, download programs, or install software without staff permission.
  • Never use someone else’s account or password.
  • Understand that school technology use is monitored and may be reviewed at any time.

Respect Property and Copyright

  • Take care of school-owned devices and use them responsibly.
  • Do not copy or use content from the Internet (including images, music, or written work) without proper permission or citation.
  • Do not download or share copyrighted files (music, movies, software) without legal permission.

Violations May Result In:

  • Temporary or permanent loss of technology access
  • School disciplinary action
  • In serious cases, legal consequences
