Modified on Mon, 24 Aug at 9:39 PM

Sharing files and folders in Microsoft OneDrive lets you securely collaborate with friends, family, colleagues or external partners. OneDrive files are private until you share them, and you can choose to share using a link or by granting access to specific people. This article explains how to create sharing links, manage permissions, and troubleshoot common issues.

Method 1: Share via Send Link

  1. Open your OneDrive folder in File Explorer.

  2. Select the file(s) or folder(s) you want to share and right-click them.

  3. Click OneDrive and then Share.

  4. Under Send link, click the permission link (e.g., Anyone with the link can edit) to adjust sharing settings.

  5. Choose Anyone or People you choose, then set options like Can edit, expiration date, or password.

  6. Enter the email addresses or names of people to share with, optionally add a message, and click Send.

Method 2: Share via Copy Link

  1. Open your OneDrive folder in File Explorer.

  2. Select the file(s) or folder(s) you want to share and right-click them.

  3. Click OneDrive and then Share.

  4. Under Copy link, click the permission link to adjust settings.

  5. Choose Anyone or People you choose, and set options like Can edit, expiration date, or password (Premium only).

  6. Click Copy to copy the link, then paste it into an email, message, or post.
